I am constantly BLINDED in space by these stupid nebulae clouds. Any programmer with any experience playing this game and any sense would realize it is a bad idea to blind people. Sure I can reposition the camera....but I'm getting sick and tired of that... I just want to enjoy the game without FRIED RETINAS !
How about we design A SLIDER for people to adjust the brightness of the background to a level they are comfortable with?
A game this advanced should not be so pitifully inadequate in the graphics department.
This has been an issue for years.
Sub.
Seriously, a slider to control brightness. Has anybody ever heard of such a thing? Hey Guys, thanks for all the helpful comments and ideas. I guess my monitor must not be compatible with Eve. I should have bought the cheap sunglasses. I am sad. Perhaps if they gave us something on the Display & Graphics tab of the Config menu to modify this: **********
- type: TriFloatParameter name: "NebulaBrightness" value: 1.00

I'll keep an eye out for a good photo, Nova Fox. Floppie & Ranger1 also brought up a significant point about the particle clouds... those are at issue here too. To make our point another way, you CANNOT adjust anything to do with the background unless you dim the entire user interface, including potentially critical information in local, fleet, or corp channels. You guys are great, thanks for all the input. People need to quit sugar-coating this problem. If I hadn't done everything that's been suggested already I wouldn't have bothered to post in here. It's a damn shame that a nice effect like HDR has to be lost (turned off) because someone on the DEV team can't (or won't) figure out how to give a us control of a simple graphics parameter. When you can't even read the distance to a locked target without moving the background around to a dark part of space or checking it in the overview, you may as well be flying from the solar system map. Btw, BLOOM was removed from the Eve graphics options a LONG time ago.
I'll bet you 20 Mil that if the user community had access to the .dds files and anything else that was needed, there would soon be a mod to fix this. Ajita al Tchar wrote:In conclusion, don't hate the nebulae, they are space art to look at when you're flying those endless miles. Thanks, mate. Yes, hating is bad. i really do appreciate the Dev teams and all the work they do... but sometimes I feel like they are off in a dark castle somewhere, doing whatever they want, telling us to eat cake.
We'll get it right someday.
In the meantime, at least I know that there are a few pilots out there willing to stand and fight the dragon.

I usually play in a dark room with one lamp on...very little ambient light unless it's daytime. So bright lights on the screen are actually blinding, and make it impossible to see my ship without playing around with the camera position.
From what I have seen in their videos, the developers at CCP work in an environment that is basically a well-lit office - this might explain their seeming lack of concern regarding this issue... and perhaps even the attitude of a number of our fellow pilots who play in similarly well-lit areas.
In any case, I've sent a barrel of sweetrolls to Iceland as a bribe, er, tribute to the Yarl of CCP.
I used to be able to get things done much faster, but then I took an arrow to the knee...
Cheers.
